United Charter High School for Advanced Math & Science III (UCHS AMS III) has always been known for combining rigorous college prep with real-world, work-based learning — and for pursuing partnerships that expand what’s possible for students. We’re excited to announce the latest: UCHS AMS III has officially launched the NAF Academy of Engineering in partnership with NAF, a national network of education, business, and community leaders dedicated to college and career readiness.
The academy gives AMS III students in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn structured pathways to three of the most in-demand fields in today’s economy: computer science, biomedical science, and engineering.
What the Academy Offers
Through the NAF partnership, students gain access to career-connected curricula developed with nationally-recognized providers like Project Lead the Way and STEM 101, hands-on work-based learning through internships, robotics competitions, mentorship programs, and direct connections to industry professionals across engineering, technology, and biomedical fields. This complements AMS III’s existing college courses and trade certificate programs, giving students a truly comprehensive path from high school to career.
Opportunity In Three Fast-Growing Fields
The academy’s three focus areas open doors to some of the fastest-growing careers available. Computer science drives everything from AI to cybersecurity. Biomedical science sits at the intersection of medicine and technology. And engineering — spanning civil, environmental, electrical, and beyond — is projected to add 195,000 new jobs annually through 2033, with a median wage of $100,000, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
NAF’s own data shows that 99% of Academy of Engineering seniors graduate nationally and 87% go on to college.
