Dear AMS IV Families

Welcome back to another exciting school year, and to those joining us for the first time, we are thrilled to have you as part of our AMS IV family. As we begin the 2025–2026 school year, my heart is full of excitement for what we will accomplish together. This is more than just a new year. It is a new opportunity for us to dream big, work hard, and help our scholars grow into confident, capable leaders. Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education. We look forward to seeing you become even more involved in our school community this year.

This year, we will focus on three key priorities that directly benefit your child and strengthen our partnership with you.

1. Powerful Learning in Every Classroom

We want every classroom to be alive with student voices and thinking. Building on the success of our focus on critical thinking last year, teachers will use proven discussion routines such as Think-Pair-Share, Talk Moves, Socratic Seminars, and Four Corners to help students explain their thinking, learn from each other, and take charge of their learning.

2. Celebrating and Sharing Our Success

3. AMS IV is home to incredible students, staff, and families. This year, we will be celebrating and sharing our success through demonstrations of learning, highlighting the great things our students are learning and doing in classrooms. We will also share stories, photos, and videos that showcase student achievement, promote scholar voice, and strengthen our community connections.

4. A Stronger Sense of Belonging and Leadership

Advisory is at the core of what we do. We believe every student should have at least one adult in the building who knows them well, can advocate for them, teach them how to advocate for themselves, and serve as the bridge between school and home through ongoing communication. This point-person model is a staple of our success and ensures that no child slips through the cracks. This year, advisory will meet twice a week, up from once a week in previous years, so we can strengthen relationships, develop leadership skills, and keep families connected to their child’s learning journey.

At AMS IV, inclusive family engagement is one of the key design elements of our charter. We believe families and caregivers are our first and most important stakeholders in the success of every student. That means we intentionally build individual and collaborative relationships, communicate in your preferred language, and ensure you have access to and a voice in your child’s high school experience and postsecondary plans. Parental involvement will be key to strengthening our Family School Alliance (FSA). I am asking each family to give just one hour of volunteer time, whether as a guest speaker, event helper, operations supporter, or sharing your unique skills in another way. Look out for more details from ADSO Burke soon on how you can get involved. Every bit of your time and energy makes a difference.

In addition, we are launching a Father Engagement Initiative with at least four special events designed just for fathers and father figures. These will be powerful opportunities to connect, inspire, and make a visible impact in our school community. More details will be shared soon, and we will be inviting all fathers to sign up at our Back-to-School Night.

Thank you for being an essential part of our AMS IV story. Together, we will make 2025–2026 a year to remember.

With pride and partnership
