Rigorous STEM Courses That Open Doors
Our AMS schools offer a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum with a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Students can take Advanced Placement courses like AP Biology, AP Calculus, and AP Computer Science.
Many students also earn college credits before they graduate through dual-credit and College Now classes with the City University of New York (CUNY). In fact, more than half of our upperclassmen are already enrolled in AP or dual-credit college courses.
Mentorship and Real Connections to Medicine
Learning at UCHS starts in the classroom but extends beyond our school walls through student initiative and action. For example, one group of seniors designed a standout Senior Capstone Project: a mentorship program that helped classmates apply to The NYU Grossman School of Medicine Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP). They hosted workshops, guided peers through applications and interviews, and mentored 16 students.
Students interested in medicine can also join clubs where they connect with peers who share their goals and explore healthcare careers together.
Partnerships That Build Real Experience
That same cohort that designed the STEP mentorship program also visited Bellevue Hospital and NYU Langone Hospital, where students gained additional insight into the medical field. Internships and hands-on, project-based lessons like this give students the confidence and skills top colleges look for. One recent graduate earned a full-ride scholarship to Williams College to study Pre-Engineering and Biology — an achievement she credits to her time at AMS.
