Top Level Competitive Athletics at UCHS

Athletics at United Charter High Schools exemplify our commitment to developing well-rounded leaders across all seven campuses. As proud members of the NYC Charter School Athletic Association, we field competitive teams in football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, softball, and track & field, giving students throughout the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens opportunities to excel beyond the classroom.

Major 2025 facility upgrades have transformed the Kennedy campus into a premier athletic destination, featuring new football and baseball fields, tennis courts, color-changing stadium lights, and a professional-grade scoreboard that makes “Friday Night Lights” truly special. Football under the lights at Kennedy has become a signature experience.

These investments, supported by the Bronx Borough President’s Office, reflect our belief that championship facilities foster championship character. We are also pleased to announce that the Bronx Borough President’s Office has committed to the next phase of campus upgrades, which will include new bleachers to elevate the fan experience.

Building Leaders On & Off the Field

What makes United athletics exceptional isn’t just wins and losses—it’s transformation. Athletic Director Mouath Abufarah notes that freshmen who join teams typically commit to playing throughout their high school careers, often as multi-sport athletes. This dedication pays dividends: many Knights receive scholarships to D1, D2, and D3 universities, from UCONN football to Saint Mary’s flag football to Stony Brook’s sports management program.

A few notable team highlights from the 2024-25 season include:

  • Boys JV Football: Completed an undefeated season (Note: JV teams are not eligible for PSAL playoffs).
  • Boys Varsity Football: Finished 6-2, advanced to first round of playoffs; Head Coach Alex Vega received recognition from the New York Giants.
  • Boys Baseball: Captured first division championship in 10 years.
  • Girls Flag Football: Won back-to-back Bronx division championships (2x champions), advanced to city quarterfinals; Hosted PSAL annual preseason tournament with 18 high school teams from across NYC and were featured in an interview called GameChangers.

United Charter High Schools student-athletes learn discipline, teamwork, and resilience that extend far beyond the playing field. They truly embody our mission to prepare tomorrow’s engaged leaders.
